<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gVaCnlSLQ3o/WHxS6Ybc-KI/AAAAAAAAIDA/tBakv1QPJjMPWvFABOMZUlHwuim89YzAACLcB/s1600/pink%2Bmarks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gVaCnlSLQ3o/WHxS6Ybc-KI/AAAAAAAAIDA/tBakv1QPJjMPWvFABOMZUlHwuim89YzAACLcB/s400/pink%2Bmarks.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I started <a href="http://rae-missigman.squarespace.com/blog/2017/1/2/art-marks-30-day-challenge-begins-today" target="_blank">this 30-day Art Marks 30 day challenge</a> today from Rae Missigman. It's a chance to get some color on the page for a few minutes. Today I mostly used my favorite marks: circles and dots. I find myself repeatedly making these marks so I must be drawn to them. I also restricted myself to three colors: pink, blue and yellow. A bit of green resulted from the yellow and blue intersecting. I've realized I really don't like to have orange and green in the same painting. I don't like the way it looks... So I've made a conscious decision in recent art play to eliminate orange if I'm using green, and vice versa.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Sdzn3hd2hXs/WHxS-gk3dKI/AAAAAAAAIDE/mhbqdg5e3-8ZrpLmMxqZIItnGRrQVV_FACLcB/s1600/mark%2Bmaking.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="255" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Sdzn3hd2hXs/WHxS-gk3dKI/AAAAAAAAIDE/mhbqdg5e3-8ZrpLmMxqZIItnGRrQVV_FACLcB/s400/mark%2Bmaking.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used gouache, acrylic, pen, and Neocolor (I love the Neocolor II water soluble crayons). I'm using a ~6"x6" notebook from Muji - I thought it would be the perfect size for this challenge. Not too big, not too small.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This reminds me of my <a href="http://colorfulartgirl.blogspot.com/2013/12/catalog-of-marks-process-post.html" target="_blank">Catalog of Marks</a>. I'll review that for upcoming mark-making with this 30-day challenge so I can expand beyond circles and dots...</div>

<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KBKTt-Tw48E/WGg7sSgtKBI/AAAAAAAAICM/fBJSp7JqG6YUy-tllkPsdVPT-DUOAbeagCLcB/s1600/square%2Bpixel%2Bpic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KBKTt-Tw48E/WGg7sSgtKBI/AAAAAAAAICM/fBJSp7JqG6YUy-tllkPsdVPT-DUOAbeagCLcB/s400/square%2Bpixel%2Bpic.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I was looking for a photo and when I cropped it and zoomed in I saw these pixels in the top corner - the original picture was a photo with colorful trees in the background. I've thought about this idea off and on for several years- find pretty, interesting pixel groups in my photographs, then make quilts based on the color groupings or use the color palette as a starter for a painting.<br />
<br />
The above square was taken from a small portion of this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hHnfxbbuOMA/WGg8CtGPyRI/AAAAAAAAICQ/5WiJBIoKvU0xzxMsjOLpguk6lROfHqljgCLcB/s1600/pixelpic.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="125" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hHnfxbbuOMA/WGg8CtGPyRI/AAAAAAAAICQ/5WiJBIoKvU0xzxMsjOLpguk6lROfHqljgCLcB/s400/pixelpic.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Which was taken from a small portion of this tree photo:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Think of all the possibilities! HAPPY NEW YEAR! May your 2017 be happy and full of color!</div>

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uIqelp1IZok/WFy4UEpYIBI/AAAAAAAAH_8/rJCkQXJtkzIMEXQpvz4Kc-CEaGyUFHccwCLcB/s1600/color10.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uIqelp1IZok/WFy4UEpYIBI/AAAAAAAAH_8/rJCkQXJtkzIMEXQpvz4Kc-CEaGyUFHccwCLcB/s400/color10.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted to make some Christmas stockings out of paper - I decided to use Trader Joe's grocery bags as a base. I cut open the bags and started layering on paint.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sB_Illzd_bE/WFy4maUEzfI/AAAAAAAAIAI/431zuPJMrcY7yXf8kjsgYP_ZK4BxmVcuQCLcB/s1600/bags.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sB_Illzd_bE/WFy4maUEzfI/AAAAAAAAIAI/431zuPJMrcY7yXf8kjsgYP_ZK4BxmVcuQCLcB/s400/bags.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NnHuCRpSktU/WFy4gAyi_TI/AAAAAAAAIAE/JtEa6I5pOOs7cW2Z9ZjZhK88oDKn3MxCQCLcB/s1600/bags%2Bcolored.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NnHuCRpSktU/WFy4gAyi_TI/AAAAAAAAIAE/JtEa6I5pOOs7cW2Z9ZjZhK88oDKn3MxCQCLcB/s400/bags%2Bcolored.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rps93C3x2bo/WFy4dUwNldI/AAAAAAAAIAA/wqh6g_mZVzYm7YoJj1piuN-2mO9PAIRnACLcB/s1600/colored%2Bbags.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="325" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rps93C3x2bo/WFy4dUwNldI/AAAAAAAAIAA/wqh6g_mZVzYm7YoJj1piuN-2mO9PAIRnACLcB/s400/colored%2Bbags.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
For the backs of the stockings I used a single color brayered on to the bag.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HeNVoBbVlzQ/WFy4w21HpaI/AAAAAAAAIAM/H9CexJoODsEZA2x1Zjgr16he3sxT6cRAQCLcB/s1600/medium%2Bstockings%2Bback.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HeNVoBbVlzQ/WFy4w21HpaI/AAAAAAAAIAM/H9CexJoODsEZA2x1Zjgr16he3sxT6cRAQCLcB/s400/medium%2Bstockings%2Bback.jpg" width="351" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EUjhRqdZYE8/WFy4ykNwa1I/AAAAAAAAIAU/q9B3LbxArFk3dfEybWlTSiYKsdOBSyUYwCLcB/s1600/big%2Bstocking%2Bback.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EUjhRqdZYE8/WFy4ykNwa1I/AAAAAAAAIAU/q9B3LbxArFk3dfEybWlTSiYKsdOBSyUYwCLcB/s400/big%2Bstocking%2Bback.jpg" width="311" /></a></div>
<br />
I was really pleased with how the paper bags took the paint. I may just always work on paper bags from now on.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hU4ScUyb5jU/WFy5F5HsxOI/AAAAAAAAIAc/JWxLktqstaw4otEGjnhn4N9QsLfQ8MKIACLcB/s1600/big%2Bstocking%2Bfront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hU4ScUyb5jU/WFy5F5HsxOI/AAAAAAAAIAc/JWxLktqstaw4otEGjnhn4N9QsLfQ8MKIACLcB/s400/big%2Bstocking%2Bfront.jpg" width="330" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CzKRfvueInI/WFy5HqjReYI/AAAAAAAAIAg/ep-UlKKFxUk86UkmAuGusB0SoNBUIucfgCLcB/s1600/medium%2Bstockings%2Bfront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CzKRfvueInI/WFy5HqjReYI/AAAAAAAAIAg/ep-UlKKFxUk86UkmAuGusB0SoNBUIucfgCLcB/s400/medium%2Bstockings%2Bfront.jpg" width="341" /></a></div>
<br />
Then stitching the pieces together with a sewing machine - so quick and easy! I used the bag handles, trimmed down, for the loop on the top side of the stockings. Then there was left over paper so I made some mini stockings to stuff with salted caramels and give away.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2_vkNDrLkDA/WFy5A0cF8_I/AAAAAAAAIAY/oXUREYua3S46EVRdvJ3PGC6pFtYQB3L4QCLcB/s1600/mini%2Bstockings.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="352" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2_vkNDrLkDA/WFy5A0cF8_I/AAAAAAAAIAY/oXUREYua3S46EVRdvJ3PGC6pFtYQB3L4QCLcB/s400/mini%2Bstockings.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I really liked some snippets from the paintings, which make great wallpaper for the computer or phone.<br />

It's for baby Farrah:<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I enjoy being able to work something over and over until the parts I don't like as much become parts I do like. I'm still working on it but I'm liking the colors and the value contrast.</div>

And check out this awesome sky last night! The clouds were really cool-</div>

This quilt will be exactly like Color Puzzle I, just a different color scheme:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uv7SJoGEqKc/V6fZMxLsIbI/AAAAAAAAH1c/6mltZNgu0WEXRXE320AO8MLHXjuLegBVQCLcB/s1600/purples.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="277" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uv7SJoGEqKc/V6fZMxLsIbI/AAAAAAAAH1c/6mltZNgu0WEXRXE320AO8MLHXjuLegBVQCLcB/s400/purples.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FLlO8TMuCMw/V6fZQZdQxmI/AAAAAAAAH1g/UWJ6l5mPM8wYJUp5cK2mFGPabdEtWO4pwCLcB/s1600/yellows.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FLlO8TMuCMw/V6fZQZdQxmI/AAAAAAAAH1g/UWJ6l5mPM8wYJUp5cK2mFGPabdEtWO4pwCLcB/s400/yellows.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The tedious bit is over: squaring up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-k0ImQY8PYe0/V6fY-10fdqI/AAAAAAAAH1Y/lSsmGnuyG2YEG4vrHGjnqtmgaeJoppzuwCLcB/s1600/squared%2Bup%2Bbits.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-k0ImQY8PYe0/V6fY-10fdqI/AAAAAAAAH1Y/lSsmGnuyG2YEG4vrHGjnqtmgaeJoppzuwCLcB/s400/squared%2Bup%2Bbits.jpg" width="341" /></a></div>
<br />
Now the blocks are on the wall waiting to be shifted around and around until I like the design. This is my favorite part:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Njh4UQKY844/VyUFmUjfclI/AAAAAAAAHwM/cBnSUQFQN8ApGcYeHW3PLZW8yIVVRgcNwCLcB/s1600/colorpuzzleapril.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Njh4UQKY844/VyUFmUjfclI/AAAAAAAAHwM/cBnSUQFQN8ApGcYeHW3PLZW8yIVVRgcNwCLcB/s400/colorpuzzleapril.jpg" width="398" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've moved more pieces around on this baby quilt and I'm about ready to sew it together. I just noticed one of the pieces (lower right corner) that must have fallen off and been put back on rotated! Ha! This is for a baby that's due next week so I better get to finishing it!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A5bJC0HlIH4/VyUFn5G5p4I/AAAAAAAAHwQ/sivxbIoppX04N8x-wxqiSWW5SLp2mU9IACLcB/s1600/floral%2Bprogress%2Bapril.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="321" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A5bJC0HlIH4/VyUFn5G5p4I/AAAAAAAAHwQ/sivxbIoppX04N8x-wxqiSWW5SLp2mU9IACLcB/s400/floral%2Bprogress%2Bapril.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a recent floral painting. I'm still working on it. It's interesting to observe all the layers that happen during the process. I love the colors. I need to do something with that yellow thing coming out of the vase - at this point it reminds me of a banana slug with a smiley face. I started this painting by throwing some color down then adding collage bits from previous Gelli print sessions - including the piece that's the large orange flower on the middle right side- if you look closely you can see the marks on the piece- that's from a Gelli print a few years ago. I like the texture and the 'delicateness' of it.</div>
<br />
I'm always looking for tidbits of design inspiration for color schemes, architectural elements for my drawings and paintings, and interesting lines. Here are some photos from the last two months:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FtvIAoGvxuc/VyUG9aw5q0I/AAAAAAAAHwc/eybClZ_UF8MIJKmn6lnUnp1QZcNVGK65QCLcB/s1600/buildings1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FtvIAoGvxuc/VyUG9aw5q0I/AAAAAAAAHwc/eybClZ_UF8MIJKmn6lnUnp1QZcNVGK65QCLcB/s400/buildings1.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9a3v-3Jd0WE/VyUG-sewMaI/AAAAAAAAHwg/IxPgJL9K8WwOOzHOjP9Ji4hY3rloCkDmwCLcB/s1600/buildings2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9a3v-3Jd0WE/VyUG-sewMaI/AAAAAAAAHwg/IxPgJL9K8WwOOzHOjP9Ji4hY3rloCkDmwCLcB/s400/buildings2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
I love those little cupolas that peek out above the rooftops.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8Ugm_CiRzyY/VyUG_aMNvaI/AAAAAAAAHwk/RCo92qa7NqcNEQO5mK4M2ydiBtg4d9O1QCLcB/s1600/stairs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8Ugm_CiRzyY/VyUG_aMNvaI/AAAAAAAAHwk/RCo92qa7NqcNEQO5mK4M2ydiBtg4d9O1QCLcB/s400/stairs.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Aren't the tiles on this stairwell fun? If I had a stairwell I would put some pretty tiles on the face of the steps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cF_pRetuH-M/VyUHdwuq0RI/AAAAAAAAHwo/qDwjmW4KGO0ST3RhXKFLfjBW_8LoV6iAgCLcB/s1600/garden2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cF_pRetuH-M/VyUHdwuq0RI/AAAAAAAAHwo/qDwjmW4KGO0ST3RhXKFLfjBW_8LoV6iAgCLcB/s400/garden2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
I loved this garden and the rock wall and the style of the building on the left.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VPXYRZpHqdk/VyUHfHTqfFI/AAAAAAAAHws/HU5cmdV4ecAiza2s1BpNaO_LdhIaHkupgCLcB/s1600/jacaranda.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VPXYRZpHqdk/VyUHfHTqfFI/AAAAAAAAHws/HU5cmdV4ecAiza2s1BpNaO_LdhIaHkupgCLcB/s400/jacaranda.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Jacaranda trees dropping their flowers all over the street.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OzRrOJESyPs/VyUHf1d8e9I/AAAAAAAAHww/L8QE6D7v9q4FuAYIWuIPcSnJWcyqDbdzACLcB/s1600/aerial.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OzRrOJESyPs/VyUHf1d8e9I/AAAAAAAAHww/L8QE6D7v9q4FuAYIWuIPcSnJWcyqDbdzACLcB/s400/aerial.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
Interesting street layout (and the reservoir is pretty) - reminds me of ideas for <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/282037995392973158/" target="_blank">aerial view art quilts, like this one.</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EoAPsSXxExE/VyUHg7i8coI/AAAAAAAAHw0/dOtIcx6cZT8Tp5uUh61NwLxZ6VE3dH8PgCLcB/s1600/tijuana%2Btemple.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EoAPsSXxExE/VyUHg7i8coI/AAAAAAAAHw0/dOtIcx6cZT8Tp5uUh61NwLxZ6VE3dH8PgCLcB/s400/tijuana%2Btemple.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
The <a href="https://www.lds.org/church/temples/tijuana-mexico?lang=eng" target="_blank">Tijuana temple</a> is gorgeous - inside and out. The grounds are so tranquil, clean and beautiful. If you're in the area, stop by and visit the grounds.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ELSW2qux8UQ/VyUHib0g3oI/AAAAAAAAHw4/ZhYC1ejZwlYMkLyN8ktUPR12lZUA2sAXwCLcB/s1600/cactus.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ELSW2qux8UQ/VyUHib0g3oI/AAAAAAAAHw4/ZhYC1ejZwlYMkLyN8ktUPR12lZUA2sAXwCLcB/s400/cactus.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CMQ1jSuUW5s/VyUHv8sjUmI/AAAAAAAAHxA/HUA3msxkmsE09SsBouPuitI75vCQcWdgwCLcB/s1600/garden1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CMQ1jSuUW5s/VyUHv8sjUmI/AAAAAAAAHxA/HUA3msxkmsE09SsBouPuitI75vCQcWdgwCLcB/s400/garden1.jpg" width="378" /></a></div>
I thought this was a pretty garden and loved the old door and the juxtaposition of the brown stucco with the stone wall.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I saw this bike parked in front of the grocery store. I loved the contrast of the turquoise and the dark blue wall.</div>

Here is what I've got so far:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PDfiWdtC2DI/VtOwmQZ9FRI/AAAAAAAAGqQ/eJSzElichUs/s1600/quilte.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PDfiWdtC2DI/VtOwmQZ9FRI/AAAAAAAAGqQ/eJSzElichUs/s400/quilte.jpg" width="393" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I picked out a bunch of fabrics for a baby boy quilt and whittled them down to this pile:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jMt38G1Ztn0/VtOwcC3ErNI/AAAAAAAAGpw/FHb3ZxZ5jI0/s1600/fabric.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="156" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jMt38G1Ztn0/VtOwcC3ErNI/AAAAAAAAGpw/FHb3ZxZ5jI0/s400/fabric.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I cut out one 6" square from each fabric:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--jJnL41Rb8Y/VtOwfOsTjMI/AAAAAAAAGp4/usBkrLSjVeI/s1600/squares.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--jJnL41Rb8Y/VtOwfOsTjMI/AAAAAAAAGp4/usBkrLSjVeI/s400/squares.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ufd16cd5lpk/VtOwgqrBD6I/AAAAAAAAGp8/_0U5SRag1Dc/s1600/squares2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ufd16cd5lpk/VtOwgqrBD6I/AAAAAAAAGp8/_0U5SRag1Dc/s400/squares2.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I paired them together and stitched half-square triangles, cut, ironed, squared up. I started arranging them on the design wall.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Tsqi4UPqXxY/VtOwd9Q3mEI/AAAAAAAAGp0/PmM2xgpC23I/s1600/quilta.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Tsqi4UPqXxY/VtOwd9Q3mEI/AAAAAAAAGp0/PmM2xgpC23I/s400/quilta.jpg" width="396" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I decided the above wasn't going to be big enough so I added another row to top and bottom and column on left and right:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nCRqtIT3abs/VtOwiBQ9aSI/AAAAAAAAGqA/5izlkElx-wE/s1600/quiltb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nCRqtIT3abs/VtOwiBQ9aSI/AAAAAAAAGqA/5izlkElx-wE/s400/quiltb.jpg" width="391" /></a></div>
<br />
Then kept moving squares around:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DbTJSrXj32U/VtOwkHvaiqI/AAAAAAAAGqI/z5i3sF7Ys6Q/s1600/quiltc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DbTJSrXj32U/VtOwkHvaiqI/AAAAAAAAGqI/z5i3sF7Ys6Q/s400/quiltc.jpg" width="388" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5xvSJxh0xlk/VtOwlbbpSuI/AAAAAAAAGqM/vSPK8umvdLs/s1600/quiltd.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5xvSJxh0xlk/VtOwlbbpSuI/AAAAAAAAGqM/vSPK8umvdLs/s400/quiltd.jpg" width="388" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm still working on this. I might have to sew some more squares to get exactly what I want but I like it so far:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PDfiWdtC2DI/VtOwmQZ9FRI/AAAAAAAAGqQ/eJSzElichUs/s1600/quilte.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PDfiWdtC2DI/VtOwmQZ9FRI/AAAAAAAAGqQ/eJSzElichUs/s400/quilte.jpg" width="393" /></a></div>
<br />
And here are 3 crazy squares I've pieced with a huge scrap pile that's been accumulating for years. It's a bit tedious but relaxing and fun in a way:<br />

Here are some paintings I've done over the last 6 months. I like this one, even though it's just the piece of paper that I used to wipe excess paint off the brush.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sbrllWvP2t0/VtOtQPU74gI/AAAAAAAAGn0/Xdod6S_E6gU/s1600/painting1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="306" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sbrllWvP2t0/VtOtQPU74gI/AAAAAAAAGn0/Xdod6S_E6gU/s400/painting1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
Plus some floral still-lifes (lives?) - these were fun to make because they're layers and layers and layers:<br />

I have a mason jar of things I've collected on walks. Some little branches and twigs and things, they are fun to look at.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_DqlPbuAonc/VdDc-49HVKI/AAAAAAAAGYM/c7tS6DAEPhQ/s1600/inspiration%2Bjar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_DqlPbuAonc/VdDc-49HVKI/AAAAAAAAGYM/c7tS6DAEPhQ/s400/inspiration%2Bjar.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I sketched a few of them and carved one of them into the white eraser block (the previous times I've tried to make stamps, I've used linoleum blocks, and it wasn't very inspiring perhaps because of the difficulty of carving lino without technical skill/knowledge). The white rubber was so easy to carve into! I accidentally cut off too much in several places, but it's a learning experience.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-J2SevCn1Q5U/VdDdIA44hfI/AAAAAAAAGYU/pg3FjRQ4v1k/s1600/carved%2Bstamp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-J2SevCn1Q5U/VdDdIA44hfI/AAAAAAAAGYU/pg3FjRQ4v1k/s400/carved%2Bstamp.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I used a #1 tip for most of it, and #3 to carve away the outside chunks. I like how it turned out!<br />
<br />
Here is a 2nd one (initial sketch on the far right, stamp on left, and stamped impressions in the middle):<br />

Process Post - in progress<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pR8rIZI3JWw/VawlGLhSQCI/AAAAAAAAGXw/0gBcKxwvuUg/s1600/11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pR8rIZI3JWw/VawlGLhSQCI/AAAAAAAAGXw/0gBcKxwvuUg/s400/11.jpg" width="312" /></a></div>
Here's where I'm at so far on this zoo animal poster/painting I've been working on:<br />
<br />
I had made some quick sketches of animals for one of my online class exercises a few months ago:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uz1hVjKwJG4/Vawh90rAgCI/AAAAAAAAGWY/Hobitla3fXs/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uz1hVjKwJG4/Vawh90rAgCI/AAAAAAAAGWY/Hobitla3fXs/s400/4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Later, I was thinking about how to use the animals in a painting and thought of this arrangement.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sbcf26QVgiY/VawiGj_2ILI/AAAAAAAAGWg/C8CvngYLb5k/s1600/44.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sbcf26QVgiY/VawiGj_2ILI/AAAAAAAAGWg/C8CvngYLb5k/s400/44.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I had just visited the local zoo, so I thought it would be cool to make it into a colorful 'poster' styled painting with the word "Zoologico" (Spanish for 'Zoo') at the bottom.<br />
<br />
Finally I got around to making it. I wanted to 'layer' the animals somehow, and keep them kind of 'blocky' without too many details/features. But first I wanted to make a background. At first I had the idea of the background showing through to the animals (but it didn't work out that way). A blank canvas is sometimes the most difficult place to start, so I started filling it up with pretty colors:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zMbvJ25qMzo/VawjIuob2OI/AAAAAAAAGWo/EwZFHO3XOLg/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zMbvJ25qMzo/VawjIuob2OI/AAAAAAAAGWo/EwZFHO3XOLg/s400/1.jpg" width="315" /></a></div>
<br />
And more colors, with some texture with stencils:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WAW1d0emPsM/VawjKtUtgEI/AAAAAAAAGWw/A-ZR132c6_s/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WAW1d0emPsM/VawjKtUtgEI/AAAAAAAAGWw/A-ZR132c6_s/s400/2.jpg" width="311" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I knew I would have to add some animals at some point, so I sketched out some blob shapes with paint:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H8tV4TSLo7g/VawjMD9O6cI/AAAAAAAAGW4/ipFlyBjT4jI/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H8tV4TSLo7g/VawjMD9O6cI/AAAAAAAAGW4/ipFlyBjT4jI/s400/3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I looked at my animal quick sketches and drew similar shapes for outlines and cut them out (can you see the chicked and the seahorse and the dog/cow that didn't make the cut?):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-i_fO7R_nx20/VawkC9XLxVI/AAAAAAAAGXA/oOGfm2kNy24/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-i_fO7R_nx20/VawkC9XLxVI/AAAAAAAAGXA/oOGfm2kNy24/s400/5.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then placed them on the background and moved them around until I found something that seemed like a good arrangement:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2HiIz6_Ueyc/VawkOwXp1sI/AAAAAAAAGXI/miw3oiR_S5w/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2HiIz6_Ueyc/VawkOwXp1sI/AAAAAAAAGXI/miw3oiR_S5w/s400/6.jpg" width="307" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I placed the shapes one at a time and outlined them with paint:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gS8bxwWlhXc/VawkVdjiBtI/AAAAAAAAGXQ/eSBPXFXZw4k/s1600/7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gS8bxwWlhXc/VawkVdjiBtI/AAAAAAAAGXQ/eSBPXFXZw4k/s400/7.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I started filling in the shapes with color, layering the animals from back to front:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-38N7pKvfy5E/VawkxPrvcSI/AAAAAAAAGXY/vcluCRBf7sI/s1600/8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-38N7pKvfy5E/VawkxPrvcSI/AAAAAAAAGXY/vcluCRBf7sI/s400/8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
More colors and layers:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K8ZVFlOub0E/Vawk15jJwGI/AAAAAAAAGXg/WWxKrBg3z2k/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K8ZVFlOub0E/Vawk15jJwGI/AAAAAAAAGXg/WWxKrBg3z2k/s400/9.jpg" width="312" /></a></div>
<br />
Added white paint over the visible background parts to try and unify everything and make the animals stand out:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BiynWhMaC8A/Vawk6FrnEgI/AAAAAAAAGXo/OGHbIOlGFqE/s1600/10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BiynWhMaC8A/Vawk6FrnEgI/AAAAAAAAGXo/OGHbIOlGFqE/s400/10.jpg" width="315" /></a></div>
<br />
At that point I decided I didn't like the big space in the middle where the hippo-like animal and the tiger-like shape meet, so I decided to add some more animals to that middle part:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pR8rIZI3JWw/VawlGLhSQCI/AAAAAAAAGXw/0gBcKxwvuUg/s1600/11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pR8rIZI3JWw/VawlGLhSQCI/AAAAAAAAGXw/0gBcKxwvuUg/s400/11.jpg" width="312" /></a></div>
<br />
I definitely think it's much better with the extra animals. Now I need to paint the onto the canvass, then continue working on the colors/patterns of each animal and tie it all together, add some dark outlines, etc. I like it so far!Leahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12572183461508385106noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5452863989766768332.post-68804973542837070832015-04-24T20:41:00.002-07:002015-04-24T20:41:32.921-07:00Year of the spark: online classI'm taking <a href="http://www.carlasonheim.com/yearofthespark/" target="_blank">an online class (Year of the Spark by Carla Sonheim and Lynn Whipple</a>) - I signed up a little late - and I've started on one of the lessons. It's kind of funny. I never would have made funny collages with old photos before but it does make me chuckle. Here are some cut out pieces I made to use for collage - aren't they so colorful!:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4rRSIHHoQJU/VTsGyUJbC9I/AAAAAAAAGUo/ypTrCQQUQQc/s1600/collage1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4rRSIHHoQJU/VTsGyUJbC9I/AAAAAAAAGUo/ypTrCQQUQQc/s1600/collage1.jpg" height="306" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Nl_HZ-3sx10/VTsGzTIzeGI/AAAAAAAAGUw/znIF8511mgQ/s1600/collage2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Nl_HZ-3sx10/VTsGzTIzeGI/AAAAAAAAGUw/znIF8511mgQ/s1600/collage2.jpg" height="307" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fEt1wKDyo7k/VTsG0aTYbVI/AAAAAAAAGU4/nPCiCMlCggA/s1600/collage3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fEt1wKDyo7k/VTsG0aTYbVI/AAAAAAAAGU4/nPCiCMlCggA/s1600/collage3.jpg" height="330" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And some doodle pages, one with markers/pencil, and one with paint (I really like the colors on the paint one):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q5nqndHLsME/VTsHS9QRyQI/AAAAAAAAGVA/ZGr21A9buic/s1600/doodle1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q5nqndHLsME/VTsHS9QRyQI/AAAAAAAAGVA/ZGr21A9buic/s1600/doodle1.jpg" height="400" width="302" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fRw2ouRYegw/VTsHT-27XjI/AAAAAAAAGVI/OmG-MaKWsTI/s1600/doodle2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fRw2ouRYegw/VTsHT-27XjI/AAAAAAAAGVI/OmG-MaKWsTI/s1600/doodle2.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
And here are some audition pieces with old photos from the internet, and some collage pieces added (the first three are using <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annie_Oakley" target="_blank">an image of Annie Oakley:</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This image was a cut out from some miners (but now I can't find the reference to link to):<br />

I used some of the layering/stenciling ideas I learned in the last online class I took, but now I <strike>have </strike> <b>get </b>to add all the little details of the birds...ie feathers, eyeballs, shadowing, etc...<br />
<br />

This is 34" x 40".<br />
<br />

<br />Leahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12572183461508385106noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5452863989766768332.post-8844083330752062532015-04-04T08:09:00.001-07:002015-04-07T14:21:37.930-07:00Next quilt: auditions in EQ6 - Process postI have a baby quilt to make, and will use black/white, blue/green colors. I've been thinking about what to make, wanting to keep it simple. I saw <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/282037995390296336/" target="_blank">this quilt on Pinterest</a>, then did a mock-up in EQ6 using my colors:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEircTKGV4pdhKKZbZGp3HRMulB0fQcK4ZQ7YarfwL5K1UiBJYJOMsShuSUtZS0zIwU54AQ4C4sSTj-_XJ-W3ZySf_oR_z7nMs6FbVA5sxWuafePZ4ANWtwUTc4UK7SXy_GCW5RpATzXFP0X/s1600/diamond+in+the+rough.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEircTKGV4pdhKKZbZGp3HRMulB0fQcK4ZQ7YarfwL5K1UiBJYJOMsShuSUtZS0zIwU54AQ4C4sSTj-_XJ-W3ZySf_oR_z7nMs6FbVA5sxWuafePZ4ANWtwUTc4UK7SXy_GCW5RpATzXFP0X/s1600/diamond+in+the+rough.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I reversed the direction of half the blocks:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rw57bysl958/VR_6ce8IEtI/AAAAAAAAGSE/fb5mdMduX7o/s1600/diamond%2Bin%2Bthe%2Brough%2Bmodified.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rw57bysl958/VR_6ce8IEtI/AAAAAAAAGSE/fb5mdMduX7o/s1600/diamond%2Bin%2Bthe%2Brough%2Bmodified.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I changed the direction of the middle line compared to the outer lines (of the block unit):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jMb_5ByCfJQ/VR_6eFviMpI/AAAAAAAAGSM/XvcOFmgGjmE/s1600/diamond%2Bin%2Bthe%2Brough%2Bv2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jMb_5ByCfJQ/VR_6eFviMpI/AAAAAAAAGSM/XvcOFmgGjmE/s1600/diamond%2Bin%2Bthe%2Brough%2Bv2.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then flipped the direction of the blocks again. This one is my favorite (ignoring the limited color palette, of course). And when you look closely at the square unit (in this case, 6x6 of them) you see that it's just two sets of 2 strips that have been cut at a 45 degree angle and sewn back to back, or else you could piece the blocks together from triangles and strips... I'm calling this "Diamond in the Rough", and definitely plan to make it <i>someday</i>:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8Kxss9GLUJ8/VR_6fY5P7RI/AAAAAAAAGSU/kTvd7qmXELc/s1600/diamond%2Bin%2Bthe%2Brough%2Bv3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8Kxss9GLUJ8/VR_6fY5P7RI/AAAAAAAAGSU/kTvd7qmXELc/s1600/diamond%2Bin%2Bthe%2Brough%2Bv3.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I rotated a small selection of the above so the blocks weren't on point and it makes this super simple quilt (but I don't like it much compared to the visually interesting one above):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hn1_FgIuOZM/VR_6hHGWGNI/AAAAAAAAGSc/ys6yxMvZ3Z8/s1600/diamond%2Bin%2Bthe%2Brough%2Bv4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hn1_FgIuOZM/VR_6hHGWGNI/AAAAAAAAGSc/ys6yxMvZ3Z8/s1600/diamond%2Bin%2Bthe%2Brough%2Bv4.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also saw <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/iamsusie/5970801735/in/photostream/" target="_blank">this image of Half-square triangles by Susie Z on Flickr</a>, and you can see all the possibilities of ways to arrange HSTs, so I made a quick mock-up in - you can see all the lights are placed in one direction and the darks in another, which creates the visual effect of squares on point:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrHMWy7eJP93tEbhs4gC1KPPri5_ORZYE153B_ncKHgjxHbwmVk9bOxghhF6Av-q0X-C-I4De2S2LmcJcAz8xdy-vH992blfpp3-rIbL0PRTk65GHO4w_o0vOnE9effP-geGvM7mAtGolU/s1600/gingerbread.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrHMWy7eJP93tEbhs4gC1KPPri5_ORZYE153B_ncKHgjxHbwmVk9bOxghhF6Av-q0X-C-I4De2S2LmcJcAz8xdy-vH992blfpp3-rIbL0PRTk65GHO4w_o0vOnE9effP-geGvM7mAtGolU/s1600/gingerbread.JPG" height="400" width="345" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the selection of fabrics from my stash that I've picked out to work on this quilt:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D_6vdXSM-gM/VR_-eBnb4OI/AAAAAAAAGSw/oe1KIZ4mbEg/s1600/stash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D_6vdXSM-gM/VR_-eBnb4OI/AAAAAAAAGSw/oe1KIZ4mbEg/s1600/stash.jpg" height="195" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I narrowed it down to 30 of the above fabrics and cut 7" squares from each for making HSTs to position randomly for a very simple version of the last mock-up in this post - I'll have to make 'Diamond in the Rough' another time, when I have more time to execute it properly.<br />
<br />
Here are several arrangements of the HST-squares on the design wall:<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">4</td></tr>

On the design wall, I finally ended up with #4, but looking at them as thumbnails here, I actually really like #1! We'll see what happens...Leahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12572183461508385106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5452863989766768332.post-11776621923558548082015-03-28T14:10:00.000-07:002015-03-28T14:10:03.089-07:00Recent paintingsI just finished an <a href="http://janedaviesstudios.com/workshops/online-workshops/" target="_blank">online art class </a>that lasted 10 weeks. I made 6-10 paintings a week following the lesson instructions/techniques. Here are my favorites:<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lesson 1 (lines and layering):</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UXiMqZCZysM/VRcS2fAmLII/AAAAAAAAGNg/HXY0HfV0sf4/s1600/lesson1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UXiMqZCZysM/VRcS2fAmLII/AAAAAAAAGNg/HXY0HfV0sf4/s1600/lesson1.JPG" height="302" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lesson 2:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DjNF_cL79_A/VRcVbeg9bTI/AAAAAAAAGN8/Wj9MLv0eoIs/s1600/Lesson2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DjNF_cL79_A/VRcVbeg9bTI/AAAAAAAAGN8/Wj9MLv0eoIs/s1600/Lesson2.JPG" height="252" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
Lesson 3:</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lesson 4 (black and white with a variety of marks) - the first one is my favorite:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ozf184xu4Rs/VRcVqdlv9tI/AAAAAAAAGOU/EUQDSlJMrOA/s1600/Lesson4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ozf184xu4Rs/VRcVqdlv9tI/AAAAAAAAGOU/EUQDSlJMrOA/s1600/Lesson4.JPG" height="400" width="301" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NvpE1IValCw/VRcVraof3iI/AAAAAAAAGOo/N7jDx2PhoL4/s1600/Lesson4_4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NvpE1IValCw/VRcVraof3iI/AAAAAAAAGOo/N7jDx2PhoL4/s1600/Lesson4_4.JPG" height="400" width="305" /></a></div>
<br />
This was a portion of one of the paintings - I really like these white circles on a black background:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9JtsiR7xVBSBEOlXzbS1vNNG1Adn3Afo6OQJRtjJ161yLLD3byLQIZIzQlbeOvP38Imq-n9DBM_9h8n-Ic1WOf3eGojybrzCNQb4I0nNurpROJTrgq7B6cGHkwqRgt6J7ejRhd7PwpWUY/s1600/Lesson4_5partial.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9JtsiR7xVBSBEOlXzbS1vNNG1Adn3Afo6OQJRtjJ161yLLD3byLQIZIzQlbeOvP38Imq-n9DBM_9h8n-Ic1WOf3eGojybrzCNQb4I0nNurpROJTrgq7B6cGHkwqRgt6J7ejRhd7PwpWUY/s1600/Lesson4_5partial.JPG" height="106" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lesson 5:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AYlFUrbdheU/VRcV9ASuKOI/AAAAAAAAGPE/5TeWVuBvwT8/s1600/L5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AYlFUrbdheU/VRcV9ASuKOI/AAAAAAAAGPE/5TeWVuBvwT8/s1600/L5.JPG" height="311" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dI5-ZtLO__E/VRcV9X0RDUI/AAAAAAAAGPI/kbU7TSsgXl0/s1600/L5_1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dI5-ZtLO__E/VRcV9X0RDUI/AAAAAAAAGPI/kbU7TSsgXl0/s1600/L5_1.JPG" height="292" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lesson 6:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TLs6yoxLf7Y/VRcWE1ctC9I/AAAAAAAAGQU/Y-Aivp7l0jc/s1600/L6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TLs6yoxLf7Y/VRcWE1ctC9I/AAAAAAAAGQU/Y-Aivp7l0jc/s1600/L6.jpg" height="303" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6ZIHopEcA1s/VRcWE5l66XI/AAAAAAAAGPo/Dmh1RXUMMYM/s1600/L6_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6ZIHopEcA1s/VRcWE5l66XI/AAAAAAAAGPo/Dmh1RXUMMYM/s1600/L6_3.jpg" height="400" width="311" /></a></div>
This pretty pink and green one was actually the beginning layers of what turned out to be the one right above (with the hexagon thing) - I really loved the hot pink and lime green combo and wasn't too satisfied with the finished result but it was interesting to see the transitions and in some paintings I loved the outcomes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Oo7o4I4pX0s/VRcWFNKgyAI/AAAAAAAAGPk/Aljfz8fusI8/s1600/L6_4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Oo7o4I4pX0s/VRcWFNKgyAI/AAAAAAAAGPk/Aljfz8fusI8/s1600/L6_4.JPG" height="400" width="305" /></a></div>
<br />
Apart from the lovely colors in the top left of this one, and the turquoise circles in the middle, plus the pink marks and other interesting marks, I really like the turquoise colored scraffito in the lower left in that pink zone - you might have to click the image to really see it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3CzE1-O7iuQ/VRcWFzgg7JI/AAAAAAAAGP4/D6UhS9vzKpU/s1600/L6_5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3CzE1-O7iuQ/VRcWFzgg7JI/AAAAAAAAGP4/D6UhS9vzKpU/s1600/L6_5.jpg" height="320" width="249" /></a></div>
<br />
This was just the beginning layer of what turned into something entirely different - but I liked this just as it was and would love to have some pillow cases made with this print:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HTCtoazI5n0/VRcWGCqqChI/AAAAAAAAGPw/y0AbERRyw_A/s1600/L6_6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HTCtoazI5n0/VRcWGCqqChI/AAAAAAAAGPw/y0AbERRyw_A/s1600/L6_6.JPG" height="320" width="232" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UnOr6g07Mb0/VRcWGq2ohdI/AAAAAAAAGQA/t0eQk_OIoTU/s1600/L6_7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UnOr6g07Mb0/VRcWGq2ohdI/AAAAAAAAGQA/t0eQk_OIoTU/s1600/L6_7.jpg" height="320" width="245" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDKZ6rbTmADboPNSZHJaUVPXifNUM6IxNQFmmnRSV0t-XkHlLXZ16eB-oNQoxBacB3ZfIzaczB1Q9a8FSr-SfP6oIIGiI-xVfiT2MvUgdNr7Y3uBlufwHT1AtrONvPDczImDf-UmtsdaTq/s1600/L6_8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDKZ6rbTmADboPNSZHJaUVPXifNUM6IxNQFmmnRSV0t-XkHlLXZ16eB-oNQoxBacB3ZfIzaczB1Q9a8FSr-SfP6oIIGiI-xVfiT2MvUgdNr7Y3uBlufwHT1AtrONvPDczImDf-UmtsdaTq/s1600/L6_8.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This might have been my favorite painting of all I did for the class. I love the light to dark gradient, the marks, the colors, the circles on the top left, the silver dots over black and blue in the lower right, and the texture from the collage layers underneath. This reminds me of an abstract depiction of outer space.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iqjjyHCSiJk/VRcWRrgpxpI/AAAAAAAAGQc/KV-kcnr-S_w/s1600/lesson6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iqjjyHCSiJk/VRcWRrgpxpI/AAAAAAAAGQc/KV-kcnr-S_w/s1600/lesson6.jpg" height="320" width="236" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lesson 7- these ones were really simple monochromatic exercises - they're lovely and were hard for me to do since I love to fill the page with ALL the colors:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p3AnyDFmmrA/VRcWYlPYL-I/AAAAAAAAGQo/m6Nygdx3qMQ/s1600/Lesson7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p3AnyDFmmrA/VRcWYlPYL-I/AAAAAAAAGQo/m6Nygdx3qMQ/s1600/Lesson7.jpg" height="320" width="250" /></a></div>
<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DCXk29sUVz4/VRcWYmcJa2I/AAAAAAAAGQk/7GCya7bZPSk/s1600/Lesson7_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DCXk29sUVz4/VRcWYmcJa2I/AAAAAAAAGQk/7GCya7bZPSk/s1600/Lesson7_1.jpg" height="320" width="244" /></a></div>
<br />
I like how this turned out with the stencil work fading into paint in the lower right:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DAC2c-qz_dM/VRcWYrEw6LI/AAAAAAAAGQs/zIKSrOv4ry0/s1600/Lesson7_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DAC2c-qz_dM/VRcWYrEw6LI/AAAAAAAAGQs/zIKSrOv4ry0/s1600/Lesson7_2.jpg" height="320" width="247" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lesson 8:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fnQC9rWJVFU/VRcWiIzCXEI/AAAAAAAAGQ8/21taj_oGW7M/s1600/Lesson8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fnQC9rWJVFU/VRcWiIzCXEI/AAAAAAAAGQ8/21taj_oGW7M/s1600/Lesson8.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>

<br /></div>
<div>
Overall, I was glad for the productivity that resulted from having a regular assignment. I didn't follow all the rules (and they were some pretty strict rules) 100% of the time, and in some cases deviated quite a bit. But I learned some new things and enjoyed it. The main points I took from the class had to do with creating transition areas, quiet areas, layering, and not being afraid to cover over something you think is fabulous.</div>

I like how colorful and bright this turned out! I've never quilted a quilt using stitch in the ditch so I wasn't as proficient as I'd have liked. But it was a good experience. I'm curious to know what it will look like after it's washed a few times.<br />
<br />
It was my first time in a Long time using a walking foot and the pedal at the same time (only done it once or twice before), since I'm spoiled with the Bernina 440QE optical lens and free-motion quilting. I really liked how <a href="http://thediymommy.com/sew-an-easy-herringbone-chevron-baby-quilt/" target="_blank">DIYMommy</a> quilted her Chevron quilt so I did the same thing with this one.<br />
<br />
Here is the back, mostly all Kaffe Fasset's fabrics which I love for their wonderful color:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I made the binding with 3 different pink fabrics, one dark, one medium and one light. Here are a few close-up shots:<br />

Always wanted to know the difference between chevron and herringbone? Check out <a href="http://www.remodelista.com/posts/chevron-and-herringbone-spot-the-difference" target="_blank">this good explanation by Christine at Remodelista</a>. or <a href="http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/29910337/list/chevron-herringbone-flame-stitch-whats-the-difference" target="_blank">this post at Houzz</a> which has some good photos.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I wanted my quilt to be a little bit bigger, so I cut 3" x 11" rectangles (48 from a white-on-white fabric, and 48 from assorted colored fabrics from the selection <a href="http://colorfulartgirl.blogspot.com/2014/12/next-quilt-light-color-palette.html" target="_blank">in this post</a>). I put them all up randomly on my design wall (made from Warm + Natural batting nailed to the wall) and then arranged them to form a color gradient, with blues/greens on the right, purples/tans on the left, and pinks/oranges/yellow in the middle:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z3PKc0TeHUQ/VJ3LWwMR6CI/AAAAAAAAFrc/-4EJwijOFow/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z3PKc0TeHUQ/VJ3LWwMR6CI/AAAAAAAAFrc/-4EJwijOFow/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" height="230" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Then moved them around some more, trying to make the colors from the different prints flow from one to the next, as well as make some kind of gradient of values (light to dark):</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vHRmiUJP6oY/VJ3Lanilz6I/AAAAAAAAFrk/rWdDCdLFeF8/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vHRmiUJP6oY/VJ3Lanilz6I/AAAAAAAAFrk/rWdDCdLFeF8/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" height="227" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Until I found a pleasing arrangement, then I began to cut the angles off the edges of the fabric. You can see here where I've cut the first two rows (on the left):</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lS4-kCMKXDo/VJ3LxV7ZqtI/AAAAAAAAFrs/6NA5ZkwHesg/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lS4-kCMKXDo/VJ3LxV7ZqtI/AAAAAAAAFrs/6NA5ZkwHesg/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" height="221" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
All the pieces cut, now I need to sew them together:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I81utPuqs0Y/VJ3MIATk1EI/AAAAAAAAFr0/Cxo1usHs7ic/s1600/photo%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I81utPuqs0Y/VJ3MIATk1EI/AAAAAAAAFr0/Cxo1usHs7ic/s1600/photo%2B4.JPG" height="283" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Sewed all the rows together, now just need to sew the three sections together and quilt: </div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_auAcMPA2Tc/VKChxPiRnXI/AAAAAAAAFsM/i5J2JCJJrO4/s1600/chevron2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_auAcMPA2Tc/VKChxPiRnXI/AAAAAAAAFsM/i5J2JCJJrO4/s1600/chevron2.jpg" height="400" width="358" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>EDIT 1/10: </b>Top completed, now I just need to quilt and bind it. This turned out longer than I like, but I don't feel like cutting part of it off. It's interesting how it looks different to me when I turn it upside down. I think I like it better turned this way than how it's been on the design wall all along:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XrgpvwJJgFc/VLFqKSXTifI/AAAAAAAAFwE/Wv9NsMSgeTY/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XrgpvwJJgFc/VLFqKSXTifI/AAAAAAAAFwE/Wv9NsMSgeTY/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" height="400" width="346" /></a></div>

For example, I saw <a href="http://thediymommy.com/sew-an-easy-herringbone-chevron-baby-quilt/" target="_blank">this lovely herringbone quilt by Christina at DIYMommy</a> and am thinking about making it for this baby quilt, but wanted to know just how different it would look to have the strip angles at 45 degrees vs 60 degrees, so I did these two EQ6 samples (again, not terribly pleased with the limited color palette):<br />
<br />
This has strips at 60 degrees:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-maVJqJhdMn4/VJw_uaxxk-I/AAAAAAAAFqs/1aFuG10RibY/s1600/herringbone%2B60%2Bdegrees%2BEQ6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-maVJqJhdMn4/VJw_uaxxk-I/AAAAAAAAFqs/1aFuG10RibY/s1600/herringbone%2B60%2Bdegrees%2BEQ6.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
This has strips at 45 degrees:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qiIlKzDpubA/VJw_vojm19I/AAAAAAAAFq0/okN0v_-2r40/s1600/herringbone%2B45%2Bdegree%2BEQ6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qiIlKzDpubA/VJw_vojm19I/AAAAAAAAFq0/okN0v_-2r40/s1600/herringbone%2B45%2Bdegree%2BEQ6.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
I definitely like the one with 60 degrees better. Then I started thinking about making the 'blocks' wider than they are tall. In the EQ6 mockup - you can't see the block outlines on the images I exported, but I wanted the width to be greater than in the image above, so I did this one:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uPijEyjwFDo/VJxDJOWpWOI/AAAAAAAAFrA/1aipYNMg2q8/s1600/herringbone%2B60%2Bdegrees%2Bwide%2BEQ6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uPijEyjwFDo/VJxDJOWpWOI/AAAAAAAAFrA/1aipYNMg2q8/s1600/herringbone%2B60%2Bdegrees%2Bwide%2BEQ6.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
It doesn't really look wider on the screen, so it's deceptive, but ultimately there ARE more strips<br />
<br />
What about this one, the strips are cut at 75 degrees:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--EJJEiMWT7w/VJxFLdk_i1I/AAAAAAAAFrM/zyLjK9zvRcM/s1600/herringbone%2B75%2Bdegree.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--EJJEiMWT7w/VJxFLdk_i1I/AAAAAAAAFrM/zyLjK9zvRcM/s1600/herringbone%2B75%2Bdegree.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
I think I like the top one the best.Leahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12572183461508385106noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5452863989766768332.post-25054478715935469352014-12-21T20:18:00.001-08:002014-12-25T09:16:22.580-08:00Next quilt: light color paletteI picked out these fabrics for the next baby quilt I'm making. They're a much lighter palette than I usually work with.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nZT00nEAffg/VJeahTCkGxI/AAAAAAAAFqE/CxeD0LKU5V8/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nZT00nEAffg/VJeahTCkGxI/AAAAAAAAFqE/CxeD0LKU5V8/s1600/photo.JPG" height="171" width="400" /></a></div>
I've been in love with <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/282037995390135723/" target="_blank">this quilt by Kathy Doughty</a> for awhile now, so I thought of doing a smaller version of it (here is an EQ6 mock-up with its limited color palette):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Lnx7L13dArc/VJea7PqAHAI/AAAAAAAAFqM/FSPVMDr3oR8/s1600/four%2Bsquare.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Lnx7L13dArc/VJea7PqAHAI/AAAAAAAAFqM/FSPVMDr3oR8/s1600/four%2Bsquare.JPG" height="345" width="400" /></a></div>
But then I saw this interesting triangle design on <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/282037995390035508/" target="_blank">this chair on Pinterest</a> (the fabric is <a href="http://www.edit-group.com.au/shop/fabric/harlequin-fabric.html" target="_blank">Harlequin by EDIT</a>) so I mocked up a simple version on EQ6:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DZzfnQQLa3E/VJebENBEXCI/AAAAAAAAFqU/XVMhLLanKwo/s1600/triangle%2Bchat.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DZzfnQQLa3E/VJebENBEXCI/AAAAAAAAFqU/XVMhLLanKwo/s1600/triangle%2Bchat.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
The idea would be to have some grays as 'sashing' between some of the triangles. I like the idea of it, but I would want it to be less 'organized' than this mock-up. I'll have to think a little bit longer about what I want to do with these light fabrics.Leahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12572183461508385106noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5452863989766768332.post-20262463188535085572014-12-21T20:06:00.003-08:002014-12-25T09:16:32.839-08:00Recent paintings<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6nXB0vKCo4I/U7moM0p2DbI/AAAAAAAAFmI/PXDSPnd0TPA/s1600/scotty1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6nXB0vKCo4I/U7moM0p2DbI/AAAAAAAAFmI/PXDSPnd0TPA/s1600/scotty1.jpg" height="400" width="367" /></a></div>
At the request of Sophia, I made this sock monkey yesterday from these socks:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hB5Feq_zbBI/U7mok9GkEWI/AAAAAAAAFmQ/ol-_X64pvZc/s1600/socks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hB5Feq_zbBI/U7mok9GkEWI/AAAAAAAAFmQ/ol-_X64pvZc/s1600/socks.jpg" height="400" width="258" /></a></div>
I followed <a href="http://www.craftpassion.com/2012/04/how-to-sew-sock-monkey.html" target="_blank">this tutorial from the internet</a> by Joanne L at craftpassion.com - it was pretty easy. I did all the stitching by hand except the first step sewing the lines for the legs and arms and ears. Check out the little green stripe at the base of the tail - I stitched around the tail 3 times to make it extra secure for all those times Mr. Sweaterz is thrown around by the tail:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NDy0zPbY4nE/U7moujPMCcI/AAAAAAAAFmY/7wYasTilt-0/s1600/scotty+back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NDy0zPbY4nE/U7moujPMCcI/AAAAAAAAFmY/7wYasTilt-0/s1600/scotty+back.jpg" height="400" width="252" /></a></div>
Yesterday this monkey's name was Scottie, but apparently today his name is Mr. Sweaterz, with a 'Z'. Here is Mr. Sweaterz eating a blueberry muffin:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RYYZfdPbQGM/U7mo15PKbXI/AAAAAAAAFmg/Jyke5KNCk1c/s1600/scotty+cupcake.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RYYZfdPbQGM/U7mo15PKbXI/AAAAAAAAFmg/Jyke5KNCk1c/s1600/scotty+cupcake.jpg" height="400" width="322" /></a></div>
Here is Mr. Sweaterz riding the cat:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wAYl3GVkw9M/U7mo7-zBL8I/AAAAAAAAFmo/iWPXp5bEAAo/s1600/scottycat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wAYl3GVkw9M/U7mo7-zBL8I/AAAAAAAAFmo/iWPXp5bEAAo/s1600/scottycat.jpg" height="348" width="400" /></a></div>
And here is Mr. Sweaterz with a bunch of random bling (including a little black jumper I made by snipping a few holes and adding a few stitches to the top of another sock):<br />

I finished this quilt at the end of May. I did a dark binding on the light side, a light binding on the dark side, and a medium binding on the straight edges.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PQlEvd28IEw/U8hT3Iruo0I/AAAAAAAAFnI/4qImzo4L4OM/s1600/quilt+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PQlEvd28IEw/U8hT3Iruo0I/AAAAAAAAFnI/4qImzo4L4OM/s1600/quilt+front.jpg" height="330" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Without the binding:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CbHCmIBe_Ks/U7mlvJ_-s4I/AAAAAAAAFl0/KzwavGQHdDY/s1600/quilt2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CbHCmIBe_Ks/U7mlvJ_-s4I/AAAAAAAAFl0/KzwavGQHdDY/s1600/quilt2.jpg" height="336" width="400" /></a></div>
Here is one before the quilt was all pieced together:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6nYkk7KIoKE/U7ml3C1dlWI/AAAAAAAAFl8/zEiqXHFT3fI/s1600/quilt1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6nYkk7KIoKE/U7ml3C1dlWI/AAAAAAAAFl8/zEiqXHFT3fI/s1600/quilt1.jpg" height="326" width="400" /></a></div>
I decided to go with the angular border on two sides, which was a bit tricky to bind, but I followed several tutorials from the internet. I do like how it turned out and it was a good challenge to learn the Y-seams. Here is the back. I used a lovely gray fabric from the Robert Kaufman Chambray Union line:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n6JGFs1TvE8/U8hVt2MQbeI/AAAAAAAAFnU/EJkGS0jaLL4/s1600/quilt+back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n6JGFs1TvE8/U8hVt2MQbeI/AAAAAAAAFnU/EJkGS0jaLL4/s1600/quilt+back.jpg" height="347" width="400" /></a></div>
I did a basic meandering loopy-loop stitch, here is a close-up:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--4Tr6SmRhFM/U8hV2DfYa8I/AAAAAAAAFnc/0gDO0HvYws4/s1600/quilting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--4Tr6SmRhFM/U8hV2DfYa8I/AAAAAAAAFnc/0gDO0HvYws4/s1600/quilting.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
And some close-ups of the folded quilt, with those angular borders:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-394j2nLT6Z4/U8hWBh7tPvI/AAAAAAAAFnk/jbCjr-Tm42g/s1600/folded.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-394j2nLT6Z4/U8hWBh7tPvI/AAAAAAAAFnk/jbCjr-Tm42g/s1600/folded.jpg" height="400" width="261" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RjPUFHHtJ6k/U8hWCfqGZGI/AAAAAAAAFns/gfL854TiUjc/s1600/folded+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RjPUFHHtJ6k/U8hWCfqGZGI/AAAAAAAAFns/gfL854TiUjc/s1600/folded+2.jpg" height="298" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-51fN75KasXg/U0sabnYxOGI/AAAAAAAAFiM/aBb1HQrmXCM/s1600/hexagon.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-51fN75KasXg/U0sabnYxOGI/AAAAAAAAFiM/aBb1HQrmXCM/s1600/hexagon.JPG" height="380" width="400" /></a></div>
using this pile of fabrics<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Cx5mm5raD9M/U0sbBJ2icxI/AAAAAAAAFiU/QkCg8aCdU7g/s1600/selection.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Cx5mm5raD9M/U0sbBJ2icxI/AAAAAAAAFiU/QkCg8aCdU7g/s1600/selection.jpg" height="232" width="400" /></a></div>
but something has kept me from doing it. I think it's my hesitation due to my lack of technical skill with Y-seams. That I recall, the only real Y-seams I've done were for the tail insertions in <a href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/166282975/Free-Stuffed-Animal-Sewing-Pattern-Fishosaurus-Dex" target="_blank">these stuffed animals</a> (step 33 in the tutorial). Generally I avoid them with dread.<br />
<br />
But how hard can it be? Seriously? I found these two great tutorials from bloggers that illustrate how easy it can be: Katie at <a href="http://www.fromthebluechair.com/2012/08/tutorial-cutting-accurate-hexagons.html" target="_blank">From the Blue Chair shows how to cut hexagons without a template</a>, which is fantastic in my book! And Jacquie at <a href="http://tallgrassprairiestudio.blogspot.com/2012/02/sewing-hexagons-by-machine-without.html" target="_blank">Tallgrass Prairie Studio shows how to sew hexagons together without marking the 1/4" lines</a>. That sounds ideal to me, especially if it works! So here goes! (I'm doing this as a blog-as-you-go post, so I'll keep adding photos as I make this quilt, all in the same post.)<br />
<br />
I chose the 6.5" x 7.5" rectangle in Kati's list and cut out a bunch to start with. Then I sewed a strip together following Jacquie's instruction:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gqHaUzm7ses/U0sc_jb658I/AAAAAAAAFig/UD_zNEHiEqs/s1600/row.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gqHaUzm7ses/U0sc_jb658I/AAAAAAAAFig/UD_zNEHiEqs/s1600/row.jpg" height="286" width="400" /></a></div>
Then, eager to overcome my hesitation and become a hexagon master, I started with the first hexagon of the second row... (Note: right at this point, I got up and wandered around looking for things to do around the house that absolutely HAD to be done right this moment, such as putting away the dishes, changing the laundry, picking up stray threads, sorting my sock drawer, transferring gesso from a jar to a bottle, etc.). Meanwhile, awhile later, I came back and read and re-read Jacquie's instructions, then dove in. Here is the first seam, pinned and waiting to be stitched:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q_xaDJ7LrSY/U0slOAQFjTI/AAAAAAAAFiw/JY0zN90mjRQ/s1600/photo+1+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q_xaDJ7LrSY/U0slOAQFjTI/AAAAAAAAFiw/JY0zN90mjRQ/s1600/photo+1+(1).JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
The finished seam - not the most perfect, but I'm certainly not going to pick it out:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AgK0cjU60Sg/U0slQKSMXxI/AAAAAAAAFi4/I6IS0mxCH2w/s1600/photo+2+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AgK0cjU60Sg/U0slQKSMXxI/AAAAAAAAFi4/I6IS0mxCH2w/s1600/photo+2+(1).JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
Setting up the second seam:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cDKlBwfdWpk/U0slRAUmjGI/AAAAAAAAFjA/TQKMoZrB97Y/s1600/photo+3+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cDKlBwfdWpk/U0slRAUmjGI/AAAAAAAAFjA/TQKMoZrB97Y/s1600/photo+3+(1).JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
The second seam stitched:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nhuI4aMEtYs/U0slR98tzMI/AAAAAAAAFjI/HD_aXHDV-3E/s1600/photo+4+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nhuI4aMEtYs/U0slR98tzMI/AAAAAAAAFjI/HD_aXHDV-3E/s1600/photo+4+(1).JPG" height="400" width="295" /></a></div>
Here is the finished Y-seam of the 1st and 2nd stitch.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nB8sXRO9ftw/U0spbw2jQzI/AAAAAAAAFjc/v9mqhMC0CL8/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nB8sXRO9ftw/U0spbw2jQzI/AAAAAAAAFjc/v9mqhMC0CL8/s1600/photo.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
Yippee! The first hexagon Y-seam is done. It's all downhill from here! Now I need to decide how to address the borders. I busted out the markers since I didn't want to take time in EQ6 to figure out how to make the border I wanted. Here is a blank sheet of hexagons which I exported from EQ6:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZTx7sZ5V7Yc/U0s1ol5-1kI/AAAAAAAAFjs/QwlV7YMrK7s/s1600/photo+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZTx7sZ5V7Yc/U0s1ol5-1kI/AAAAAAAAFjs/QwlV7YMrK7s/s1600/photo+1.JPG" height="296" width="400" /></a></div>
Filled in with markers, with the idea of a border - I don't like the idea of a flat top/bottom border like in the image at the top of this post. But I'm still not sure what to do...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o4WmdsXM9R4/U0s1quJOExI/AAAAAAAAFj0/fq3JppOROVo/s1600/photo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o4WmdsXM9R4/U0s1quJOExI/AAAAAAAAFj0/fq3JppOROVo/s1600/photo+2.JPG" height="306" width="400" /></a></div>
I really don't want the quilt to end up looking like a soccer ball. I do like <a href="http://ufocoach.wordpress.com/2011/10/27/project-2011-24-holy-hexagons/" target="_blank">this example of a hexagon quilt </a>which has quite a large number of hexagons, way more than I plan to do. It just has a straight/flat border, which looks pleasing in this example. I also like <a href="http://quiltingismybliss.blogspot.com/2013/05/hexagon-quilt.html" target="_blank">the ends of this one</a> where two ends stick out. I imagine the binding on that is a bit tricky... then there is <a href="http://stitchindye.blogspot.com/2009/07/week-of-finishing-hexagon-quilt.html" target="_blank">this one by Malka Dubrawsky</a> where all the sides are bound like that with no borders. Hmmm...<br />
<br />
So maybe I'll do it this way (scissors came in handy):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-19LZ2EsVZAQ/U0s8f1_z4eI/AAAAAAAAFkE/TQ7ROO6AtAI/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-19LZ2EsVZAQ/U0s8f1_z4eI/AAAAAAAAFkE/TQ7ROO6AtAI/s1600/photo.JPG" height="317" width="400" /></a></div>
I will do light binding on the dark side, and dark binding on the light side, with medium binding, perhaps, on the top and bottom... And now onto the selection of fabrics - I counted the number of hexagons for this design and I needed to eliminate more than half of my 100 fabrics. I started pulling some out of the pile and lined up ones I liked according to light, medium and dark value, to ensure I had a good spread across all values.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7FuBSZRpfOM/U0tEyjFX0cI/AAAAAAAAFkU/DFBF74i_baw/s1600/photo+1+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7FuBSZRpfOM/U0tEyjFX0cI/AAAAAAAAFkU/DFBF74i_baw/s1600/photo+1+(1).JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
I put a light, medium and dark strip of fabric beneath each pile to help:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hQmXaJ2OQ3M/U0tE0LX6VMI/AAAAAAAAFkc/Ve_MsA6Hd0k/s1600/photo+2+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hQmXaJ2OQ3M/U0tE0LX6VMI/AAAAAAAAFkc/Ve_MsA6Hd0k/s1600/photo+2+(1).JPG" height="251" width="320" /></a></div>
Now I'm cutting out the hexagons and throwing them up on the design wall:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MeirnWow1dQ/U0tE0gZJuLI/AAAAAAAAFkk/TqRHtPOBY5o/s1600/photo+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MeirnWow1dQ/U0tE0gZJuLI/AAAAAAAAFkk/TqRHtPOBY5o/s1600/photo+3.JPG" height="271" width="320" /></a></div>
Later on... more pieces on the wall - I really like the look of the white space in between the pieces on the right. I could add a thin sash of white in between the dark pieces and a sash of dark in between the light pieces- that would look awesome! (But I'm not going to do it for THIS project.)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dORfOVU3SOE/U0t0HUbNYUI/AAAAAAAAFk8/PD11o0n52ek/s1600/photo+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dORfOVU3SOE/U0t0HUbNYUI/AAAAAAAAFk8/PD11o0n52ek/s1600/photo+(1).JPG" height="320" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All the hexagons cut out - this is a really small design wall so they don't all fit. They're overlapped:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3yGsQdkA_ck/U0t0GFdgeKI/AAAAAAAAFk0/lpmYGpH3qqY/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3yGsQdkA_ck/U0t0GFdgeKI/AAAAAAAAFk0/lpmYGpH3qqY/s1600/photo.JPG" height="320" width="315" /></a></div>
I'll spend a bit of time switching around the pieces until I get to something I find pleasing. But I'm committed to not spending more than a week on swapping pieces. My goal is to have this finished (quilted and bound) before the end of April.Leahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12572183461508385106noreply@blogger.com1
